More fines for Healthcare entities!
St Elizabeth Medical Center was fined by HHS over $200,000 for leakage of data and not encrypting technology resources.
Healthcare is a very long in the tooth industry due to their lack of budget, resistance to change and prehistoric leadership. Healthcare companies should look to change the face of their efforts by adding a Chief Security Officer, separating IT from Security and actually creating a designated budget for security that matures annually based on advanced threats. Today's company requires modern changes to combat against modern threats. It is sad that patients can not receive adequate healthcare because they are afraid of their data being stolen.
Firms can either invest $200,000 towards an advanced security program or continue to pay exorbitant fines to the government that do nothing to advance their security protection, only infusing the government with more dollars.
